Boredom is dangerous
For a structure to exist it must eradicate personal boredom. It’s the most dangerous state. A state of emptiness and openness marked by a sense of frustration. It is unpredictable, dangerous and can lead anywhere. It can’t be controlled. It is primarily interior. It has a relationship with the environment that is unmediated. It can be very raw. Very powerful. Uncomfortable. So much so that it can create a tremendous drive in ways it’s hard to conceive of beforehand.
A system can’t afford that.
That’s why you can.
Because of the inverse of all of the above. The openness provides space. To leave it unfilled is to allow things to pour in. In new and unexpected ways. To enable possibilities that were previously unimaginable. To enable a relationship with your environment in new ways. Or to wholesale change your environment. It’s the very rawness of an interior voice speaking. Its unpredictability is the very novelty it is exploring. It is creating newness out of nothing.
Boredom doesn’t need to be cured; or distracted away.
It can be surfed.
