What is worthwhile

Published on May 13, 2025 in General

What is worthwhile. What is worth doing. What gives a life meaning. If the answer was singular, it would have been sold to you by now with a lifetime guarantee.

The reality is that the answer to those questions is incredibly personal and intimate. It has no stable answer because the life you live is dynamic. It is unfolding minute by minute, second by second.

If you co-opt worth and purpose from an outside narrative, you will firstly be bound by someone else’s rules. Secondly, you will always feel a sense of distance or misalignment.

What is worthy is based on your unique circumstances and role in the world. With that comes humility. And with humility comes confidence. A sense of deserving to be in the world. Not a sense of narcissistic belief. The two are very different.

The challenge, and it is a deep challenge, is how to throw off the conditioning, pressure and incentive to construct a system of values that exists solely for you. That becomes a sense of duty with no pressure.

To act without coercion, but rather to flow with a sense of direction and belief. Not necessarily with a sense of purpose, but purposefully.

You can walk aimlessly with a sense of direction.
