A barrage of choice

Published on May 19, 2025 in General

Attention and awareness are a choice. In systems where the marketplace is barraging you with constant messages, what you tune into becomes significant.

The marketplace doesn’t care which message you tune into, as long as it’s one of its messages. It thrives by allowing certain messages to flourish at the cost of others, and thereby choosing winners and losers. Those messages are often the ones that satisfy our immediate needs and desires.

The internal voice is nourished by a different need. Its arc is longer term and different. It doesn’t choose winners and losers; it has its own rhythm, and perhaps it’s your choice of attention whether to honour that.

You can choose to ignore the internal call in favour of the external barrage, but in so doing you ignore the vastness of the internal space and its needs.

In doing so, what do you lose?
