The retreat into silence

Published on April 30, 2025 in General

Do you need to take yourself away to escape the forces that seek to mould you. Or can you retreat into yourself.

The interior space is so vast, and so protected, that it offers shelter from even the greatest trauma. But the choice of whether to make it a prison or an open field are a question of perspective.

Society will pressure you into perceiving the outside world as the only playground. It has to, in order to ensure engagement with the factors that enable it to survive.

But in reality, your needs are far simpler. There’s virtually nothing consumer society offers that you truly need. The bare minimum is sufficient. A healthy body, a healthy mind and a healthy soul don’t require the market. Moreover they specifically are harmed by the market.

So perhaps retreating into the silence of an interior world isn’t an escape, but a true resting place. Unaffected by the noise of the chaotic playground of the outside world.

The choice is whether to defend that with vigilance. Or to allow it to be subsumed.

Framed that way, is there really a choice?
