The absurdity of persuasion

Published on June 28, 2025 in General

Within a structure that values internal autonomy it seems absurd therefore to take the route of revolution; to demand that the other follow the same course as you.

A communitarian philosophy that arises from this is a common fostering of the ability for each to pursue internal autonomy because this will never be at the expense of the community. It’s driven by a different routing.

If the focus is on not just your, but also everyone else’s capacity to nurture an internal world then there is a rapid shift away from the importance of external incentives. Especially where they are excessive.

The shift is nuanced, but it’s ultimately a question of emphasis. Are you, as an individual, seeking to honour the internal, or the external?

From there the rest cascades.
